Customs declarations after Brexit

Every parcel leaving the UK for Poland needs a CN22 (low value) or CN23 (higher value) declaration listing contents and value. Gifts under €45 between private individuals are exempt from duty and VAT; commercial goods over €150 attract duty. We complete the paperwork for you at no extra cost.

How to pack for an international move

Use double-walled boxes for books and single-walled for clothing, cap boxes at 20 kg, wrap upholstery in stretch film and tape drawers shut. Label every box with the room it belongs to in the new property — it saves an hour at the unload.

Fragile items

Plates travel on their edge, not stacked flat. Glassware goes in a box with dividers, and TVs should ideally travel in their original carton.

White goods

Drain washing machines fully and fit the transit bolts. Fridges must stand upright for four hours after delivery before being switched on.

How much space do you actually need?

Half a van (£1,000) takes a studio or one-bedroom flat: a bed, a sofa, a wardrobe and roughly 10–15 boxes. A full van (£1,800) takes a two or three-bedroom home including white goods. If you are unsure, send photos and we will size it for you.

Timeline for a move to Poland

Eight weeks out: book the van and start decluttering. Four weeks out: give notice on utilities and your tenancy. Two weeks out: pack everything but essentials. Collection week: we phone to confirm the exact day and time window.

What removals really cost in 2026

Quotes from UK firms for a Scotland–Poland move usually sit between £900 and £2,200 depending on volume, floor level and how far the delivery address is from the motorway. Ours are fixed: £1,000 for half a van, £1,800 for a full van. If a quote looks unusually low, check whether it is depot to depot rather than door to door.

Timing your move around school terms and the ferry season

June to September is the busiest window, when Scottish school holidays overlap with families relocating before the Polish academic year. Book three weeks out for those months; between October and March we can often collect the same week.

Sending parcels at Christmas

The last comfortable collection date for a parcel to arrive in Poland before Christmas is the first week of December. Alcohol, tobacco and perishable food cannot travel, so hampers need to be assembled from non-restricted items.
